Lots to report back on this week, more laser cutting, Gummy Bear deliveries, axe throwing, house renovations, tree planting, bandsaw safety, orchids (of course!) and some of us even found time for some woodturning. Read on for more:
Burnsy has been out refining the laser cutting to prevent build up of soot and black marks by making some new spacers to lift workpieces up off the cutting bed, seems to work. Laser map making is underway and an upgrade kit arrived for the 3d printer...complete with extra Gummy Bears....looking at the instructions indicates that something stronger than Gummy Bears may be required....
Gary Lowe has been out in the workshop and this time we got a look at three pieces: A textured hollow form on legs, a wobble box and a saturn ring bowl. Lovely work. Gary also showed us a couple of pens sent up by Bill Mooney as a thank you for a piece Gary had sent him.
Jim Briggs sent in some photos and a video from his recent event which involved Axe throwing and Jim's chopper seemed to work well...luckily nobody was seriously hurt !!
Len Shield sent in some photos of some recent pieces including a goblet with captive rings and some bowls/platters with colour and pyrography which got a lot of interest from everyone present. Lovely work.
Martin Stacey rejoined us after his house renovation work and it looks like (as always) Martin has done a splendid job. Well done Martin, now for some well earned workshop time we think !!
Mike Wilson sent in some photos of the first acorn on an oak tree he planted when he moved into his house, it'll be a couple of years before that one ends up on the lathe but it's something to look forward too !!
Patrick Lindsay sent in some photos of his most recent completed work which includes some apple shaped boxes, we also got a look at the home made jig Patrick uses on the bandsaw when cutting round logs. The jig helps to prevent the workpiece from moving/rotating whilst being cut and cuts down on the risks involved in making these types of cuts on the bandsaw. Of course we also got an orchid !!

As always we had several contributions from others so, if you showed something, then please do send over some photos you can do it from your mobile phone.... it's not that hard, just ask a teenager for help!!
