Very pleased to welcome in a couple of new faces to the group, though one of them is a familiar face to many of you. At any rate here is a reminder of the last session.
Ian Forster has been out in that workshop again and this time he has been out with the paint and glitter....in a manner of speaking. Ian showed us a beautiful ebonised lidded box which he has added some gold leaf to ...it's yet another stunner from Mr Forster!
Ken Bryden has been out into the workshop and produced a Square Natural Edge Platter, Ken had been to see an IRD by some australian bloke called Phil Irons...I think he's just a new turner 😁 . This was Ken's version of what he had been shown in the demo..... Phil who??
Len Shield having taken some time to recover from all the birthday cake has been out doing all sorts. Having made the wooden train for a neighbours child, the sibling couldn't be left out so Len made a dolls cot and his wife produced a lovely duvet and pillow to go with it. The lathe was not totally neglected though, Len has also produced this lovely little heart shaped pendant...very busy!
Margaret Garrard showed us something she has been working on, it's a technique called Therming. This involves turning multiple pieces at the same time and allows you to have facets on the pieces....very interesting. Hopefully we can all sign up for an IRD from Margaret and she can show us all how to do it....see what I did there Margaret??
Patrick Lindsay joined our group for the first time (hopefully not the last!). Patrick is known to many of you and he shared with us a couple of pieces of his work, a set of Yew wine glasses and a decanter. Patrick's second photo was of a commission piece: a large natural edge bowl made with timber he collected from Mowden Hall School.
Phil Irons has been out and got himself a shiny new toy....a Vicmarc VL240 ...the swivel head one. This is to go into Phil's new "Zoom Studio" so that he can use it for his IRD's. Hopefully we will be getting a whole load of photos of the creation of the studio and of course it is nice to see that Phil has gone back to lathes of the correct colour!!
Richard Dickson was our second new participant of the week. Richard is a neighbour of Phil's, and even though that's the case he's still decided to join us....see what I did there Rusty !!
Richard shared some images of a very nice lidded bowl and it would seem that he intends to come back again.....we must be doing something right!
Pat Carroll has very kindly offered to give away a ticket to his fortnightly Sunday evening IRD's on a regular basis. So folks we will have one ticket to give away every two weeks...the first ticket was won by Malcolm Ferguson, lucky chap!
(How on earth did that photo get in there I wonder.......)
As always we had several contributions from others but the session is not recorded so I don't have screen shots....if you showed something then please do send over some photos, you can do it from your mobile phone.... it's not that hard, just ask a teenager for help!!
Don't forget you can find the previous Monday Session Reports on the website just click here. You can also look at the images for each week by clicking here and look at the images for each contributor by clicking here.
Once again thanks to all of you for making these evenings such a success, if nobody contributed then none of these evenings could happen. Keep on making and, most important of all, keep on sharing!
