Well, what a week...scorching weather and everyone still seems to be hitting the workshop regardless of the baking heat. We have workshop tools for sale this week, tools arriving from the US, turning and carving, awards being received, clocks made, fruit turned, technical hitches and to cap it all off....a trip to the fair and a ride on the dodgems....Phew what a scorcher!!
Andrew Hall has sent over some photos from an old friend from Wear Valley Woodturners, Ian Elliott. Ian is selling up his turning tools/equipment. If there is anything you like the look of then reply to this email and we will send you over Ian's contact number.
Burnsy has been out setting fire to more bits of plywood, though to be fair he does seem to be getting the hang of it....fewer flames but still lots of smoke! Some actual products are being made now. A parcel arrived from the US via Stratford...a very nice Thomson tools handle and gouge from the AAW as a bit of a thank you for services rendered.
Gary Lowe sent over some photos of a pair of boxes he had made. We got a walk through of the process and,of course, the boxes were both textured and coloured. Really lovely pieces of work as always.
Len Shield sent over some photos of a clock in the form of a flower, we got to see how Len had put the clock together - I think that there may be one or two of this type appearing in a number of workshops. Len also showed us a really nice wooden rose he had made from shavings...really nice!
Martin Stacey sent over some photos of himself and Kevin Purdy receiving prizes at their local club (Northumbria Woodturners) for their work. In both cases these awards are well deserved and will be the first of many such awards.
Patrick Lindsay has been out in the workshop and made this rather lovely piece of turned fruit from some spalted beech. The pear is also hollowed out to make a nice box, lovely work as always.
Phil Irons sent over some still photos from his recent trip to the US, apparently these were supposed to be videos but a technical hitch occured when sending them....next week we hope to have the videos....technology allowing of course!
Richard Dickson sent over some photos from his recent trip away to Devon/Cornwall where he visited a fairground museum with working rides. Looks like a whole load of fun and entertainment...though Richard doesn't go on the rides he did manage the carousel...just about!
As always we had several contributions from others so, if you showed something, then please do send over some photos you can do it from your mobile phone.... it's not that hard, just ask a teenager for help!!
