Well, that was a marathon session!! The entries are flooding in for the Christmas challenge, we had lots of woodturning (no surprises there !!) and we also had lots of other work on show including quilting, knitting, crochet, 3d printing and more besides. What a talented bunch !! Read on for more...

Andrew Hall: WoodturningAndrew Hall sent in some photos of a recent commission piece completed as a retirement gift for an organist. The pipes are from an old Wurlitzer organ similar to the one played by the retiree. We also got a look at a blues bowl made by Andrew which is going to be decorated by Kirsty Dalton..looking forward to seeing that one when it's completed !!

Bill Mooney: WoodturningBill Mooney sent a photo of some of the Christmas trees he has been making for the Blind Veterans Association. The trees are made from upturned pine cones with some paint applied and have turned bases. Great idea !

Burnsy: 3d printingBurnsy managed to complete the assembly of the 3d printer and (to his own amazement) it worked !! So we have another entry for the Christmas Challenge, a 3d printed Christmas tree with a base - the base and tree are have working threads which were printed rather than cut. The tree and base were measured against the original model to verify the accuracy of the printer...variance is less than 0.2mm (see the video below). All of the gummy bears were needed plus several chocolate biscuits and a lot of paracetamol.....

Dave Blanden: WoodturningDave Blanden sent in some photographs of a couple of snowmen as his entry for the Christmas Challenge, very nice indeed. Questions were raised about the scarves...were they knitted or crocheted (and by whom) ???

Gary Lowe: WoodturningGary Lowe sent in some photos of a recent piece which is coloured and textured, the texturing is also on the inside of the piece - it's a stunner!! Gary also entered a tree into the Christmas Challenge...suitably windswept of course !!

Julian Cleak: WoodturningJulian Cleak has sent in photos of some Christmas Tree decorations for the Christmas challenge...spalted Beech, fully hollowed out to make them nice and light for the tree. Very nice indeed !!

Kevin Purdy: WoodturningKevin Purdy sent over some entries for the Christmas Challenge including this rather lovely group of snowmen, plus some turned bird houses with robins.... all different and all fantastic. Well done !!

Len Shield: WoodturningLen Shield sent over a whole load of entries for the Christmas Challenge, some featuring his work but most featuring the quilting and other needlework of his wife, Kathleen (apologies for the spelling if it's wrong). Some absolutely amazing work here !!

Martin Stacey: WoodturningMartin Stacey sent in some photos and a video (see below) of an entry for the Christmas Challenge, we also got a photo of a wreath made by his partner.  Martin also paid a visit to a Christmas event at Axminster Tools in Newcastle and sent over a video of a Pole Lathe (see below) turner in action. Great stuff...

Mike Wilson: WoodturningMike Wilson sent over a photo of another Christmas themed quilted piece made by his wife, Christine. Very seasonal !!

Patrick Lindsay: WoodturningPatrick Linday has been out of the workshop due to the recent cold snap but sent over some photos of items in his hollow form collection, and very nice they are !! We also got an entry for the Christmas Challenge - a collection of Christmas Cacti, all in flower. Very colourful !!
