Well, I'm happy to report no more close shaves this week!! Instead we had some very interesting pieces of work on show, more of the 3d printing mischief, some rather lovely chairs, a new toy essential piece of workshop equipment, a salt pig and, of course, Orchids !! This being June I might be tempted to say something like: "Phew what a scorcher". However, it looks like it may be about to start snowing...read on for more..
Arun has completed his studies for this year and was able to rejoin us. We were treat to a selection of photos showing him at work (high up in a tree) and some of the more recent pieces coming out of the studio. One piece which drew a lot of attention was a piece made from the base of a Juniper trunk...an absolute stunner. Well done!!
Burnsy put in some old and new photos. The older ones show some work done a little while ago combining 3d printed items and mdf sheet to create a scanning surface for the Shaper Origin. We also got a look at a 3d printed puzzle and a short video of the completed puzzle. Looks like he's getting the hang of it then!!
Gary Lowe sent over some photos of work that had come out of a demonstration day at a Scottish woodturning club. Gary had been asked to help the club members come up with techniques and ideas for dealing with small and odd shaped burrs. It looks like Gary really hit the mark and we saw lots of great ideas to help make the most of these special little pieces of timber. Nice one!!
Malcolm Ferguson sent over some photos of a new essential piece of workshop equipment and some chunks of Aspen he had been given from a tree which had been hit by lightning in a recent storm. Malcolm made the rash move of telling us he would be providing us with more photos and details of progress as he uses the timber...looks like Richard Dickson is off the hook for a little while then !!
Martin Stacey sent in a photo of a salt pig he has completed recently, lots of interest in this piece - it seems there may be one or two of these appearing from workshops up and down the country !!
Mike Wilson is preparing to head off to Phil Irons workshop for a couple of days training. Mike is going to work with Phil to learn about his finishing techniques, we were assured that there's going to be photos for next week !!
Patrick Lindsay seems to have a lot of Orchids in flower at the moment and we got a very colourful selection to look at. Patrick has also been busy out in the workshop and we got a look at a set of egg cups and tray made for some lucky person, very nice!!
Phil Irons sent in a few photos of his display in a local gallery showing how the prints he makes are displayed along with items made from that specific tree. Adds a new dimension to the work and pulls in a different set of viewers to his work. Very nice !!
