Well it seems that lots of us are getting a chance to get some things made, the lack of Summer weather is helping to keep us in the workshop !! We have projects being completed, started and things breaking apart whilst on the lathe. We also had a look at a problem caused by a turned item being stored in a modern burial barrow - not a problem many of us have on a regular basis!! Read on for more...
Burnsy decided to put Jim out of his misery as he has been asking about a project started a little while ago, so we have an almost complete side table - now referred to as a birdcage table - thanks Jim. Just to keep Jim on his toes another just printed project was shown in pieces...Jim will have to keep coming back to find out what it is....
Malcolm Ferguson sent over some follow up photos to show his progress with the timber from a friends garden tree. The logs have been processed into blanks and set aside to dry - though the electric chainsaw didn't work out quite as planned. We can look forward to photos of the next steps in the process .... see what I did there !!
(Oh, and Richard...don't worry we haven't forgotten you !!)
Patrick Lindsay sent over some photos of a piece which came apart on the lathe due to some internal rot which was not visible .... until it was too late. Fortunately Patrick was well out of the firing line but it's a reminder for all of us...this stuff we do can be dangerous so "gan canny". We got a look at a lovely pair of candlesticks and of course...some Orchids.
Phil Irons sent in a few photos of one of his urns which had been placed in a modern burial barrow. The damp and cold have taken their toll on the piece which is in need of repair, this poses an interesting challenge and some valuable information on how these pieces can react in extreme circumstances. We also got a look at some of the more recent Urns completed.
