Another busy week in the workshops, old interests being revisited, new tools being bought (and returned), historical re-enactments, trips to the seaside, cars used as swimming pools...some of us even found time for some woodturning...whatever next!! Read on for more...

Burnsy: WoodturningBurnsy has been off on a one day outing to get re-acquainted with an old interest - Cyanotypes. A one day workshop was attended locally and great fun was had by all, results of the efforts were shown - now to apply it to some wooden surfaces. A parcel was also despatched to Arun with what will (hopefully) be a useful addition to the workshop. Another little puzzle was left for Jim to ponder...

Jim Briggs: WoodturningJim Briggs had been out purchasing a new slow speed bench grinder but ran into problems with it making some unusual noises. It had been purchased to speed up reshaping of tools prior to sharpening. After conversations with Burnsy and Phil Irons the grinder was returned and exchanged for a coarse diamond wheel for the Tormek...problems are now resolved. Naturally when in the tool shop Jim was forced to pick up a few other essentials...looking forward to more photos and videos Jim !!!

Malcolm Ferguson: WoodturningMalcolm Ferguson sent over a photo from his visit to Beamish, the character in the photo is one of the Beamish team in costume re-enacting a historic scene showing a traditional woodworker...a great day was had by all.

Phil Irons: WoodturningPhil Irons sent in some images of recently completed pieces including a recent commission for a heart shaped cremation urn - this one had taken quite a lot of work but it looks to have been worth the effort for such a unique piece. An assortment of other completed pieces were shown including a Robinia hollow form with voids and a metal leaf finish on the interior which drew a number of comments regarding the technique used to produce the interior texture ......!!!

Richard Dickson: WoodturningRichard Dickson sent over some photos a recent trip. Having been to the top bit (John O'Groats) Richard decided to round things off with a trip to the bottom bit (Lands End) in the TR6. Richard took Rosie with him who, after a long drive, was very happy to get to the beach and do a bit of swimming, Richard didn't need to go to the beach for watersports....there was plenty of water inside the car for him !! Unfortunately the TR6 didn't make it home under it's own steam and is now undergoing repairs to it's collapsed wheel bearings...the joys of owning a classic car !!
