So, this week we had reports back from the Chestnut weekender, the Dalamann demonstration, triumphs at the Slaley show, a fantastic piece of work from a young turner and of course the start of preparations for Christmas (yes, I know it's not December yet).Read on for more...
Andrew Hall returned from his demonstration at the Chestnut Woodturning Weekender with some photos based on the project he did at the event. Andrew used a potters wheel to produce paint effects on wood blanks then turned the finished pieces....in case it seems familiar some of us may remember a toy called Spiromatic. Fantastic idea producing some really great effects !!
Burnsy has been out doing more laser stuff plus some 3d printing, this time it was Christmas items....getting an early start for the 2024 Christmas challenge !!! A delivery was also made to Jim Briggs as he had requested assistance with getting hold of a new chopper....one was laser cut and posted asap.
Jim Briggs has been out and about, Jim went to a demonstration day at wood supplilers Dalamann. It appears they had some very tall Australian bloke demonstrating, Jim left bitterly disappointed as no tool handles were bent during the demonstration, nothing came off the lathe....very poor show indeed !!! Jim also received a parcel in the post and reported that his new chopper had arrived undamaged...what a relief.
Kevin Purdy has had a very successful trip to Slaley Show. Kevin came away with a number of prizes (quite rightly so) after entering some of his work in the Woodturning category of the show. Well done Kevin !!
Len Shield has had his workshop taken over by his grand daughter Martha. Martha produced this fantastic platter which was pyrographed and then airbrushed. Apparently this was Martha's first work with an airbrush...we are all hoping it won't be the last!! Martha also won at the Slaley show for her turned work. We are all hoping to see more of her work in future, very well done indeed !!
Patrick Lindsay was also out at Slaley Show and took an overall prize and cup for his entries in the plant categories. Patrick also won prizes for his woodturning including a first for the set of goblets we saw earlier this year, well done Patrick !!
Phil Irons forgot to take photos whilst at Dalamann demonstrating but we did get some photos of a workshop he gave some years ago on colouring (I believe it took place in Scotland !!). We also got a photo of an interesting approach to parking demonstrated by the owner of a Toyota Prius. Clearly they decided that they had taken the wrong road and attempted a three point turn but....didn't quite make it...ouch!!
