We all seem to have survived the worst of the bad weather and many of us are now harvesting the fallen timber!! We also had two visitors from Denmark on the session who were visiting Phil for a course...not sure what they were teaching him though!! Read on for more:
Andrew Hall sent in some photos from a recent visit by Richard Kennedy and his dog Ludo who seems to have had no problem settling in. We also got some more progress reports on his part time dog Sonny....still enjoying that retirement...lucky chap !!
Burnsy spotted a bargain in the middle aisle of Aldi in the shape of some rolls of quilted foil insulation which have been used to start enclosing the 3d printers, the printers have their own dedicated space but don't react well to the cold and damp of a Scottish winter so enclosing them should help create a bit of a micro climate and give better print results...at least thats the theory!!
Graham Brooks sent in some photos of some chair parts he had turned in advance for someone coming to the workshop to make a chair. We also got a look at a lovely three cornered bowl with lid, something that Graham makes regularly and you can see why - lovely job!!
Jim Briggs sent in some more photos of his turned penguins, the penguin proved popular last week and it seems likely that there will be one or two clones of "Feathers McGraw" coming out of workshops shortly.
Kevin Purdy sent in some photos of a recently completed bowl with a foot in Laburnum, the Laburnum came from Patrick Lindsay when Kevin paid a visit recently. As always very nice work from Kevin!!
Len Shield sent in some photos of a coffee pot which he had recently completed. The pot is in Mahogany and has a metal hinge, the interior has been finished with Rustins Plastic Coating so it is waterproof and could potentially be used to pour hot coffee..though it's too nice to try!!
Mike Wilson sent in some photos of some of the wood being retrieved following storm Eowyn, this includes pieces of a Strawberry Tree from Penryn Castle. Well, as the saying goes: "It's an ill wind....". Looking forward to seeing some of the finished items!!
Patrick Lindsay sent in some photos of his continuing production run of candlesticks, we also got a look at a large bowl and an apple shaped box. Of course we also got a splash of colour from the currently blooming Orchids in the greenhouse, very welcome in the winter gloom!!
Phil Irons had visitors from overseas this week so he sent over a photo and some video of his visitors from Denmark in the workshop. The visitors came to do a course with Phil on use of the Woodcut Hollowing tools, though it appears that Phil had yet to teach them his world famous handle bending technique...clearly that was being saved until last !!
Richard Dickson is settling in after his house move and we got a look at the proposed spot for his new workshop, the builders have been commissioned and the building has been ordered, very exciting times!! We also got a look at Richard's seed potatoes for this year and some ceramic repair work he had undertaken on an old piece of pottery that had been through a rough patch...well done!!
