A very active meeting this week with a cautionary tale regarding the need for anti-freeze, chair making, rounding planes, steam bending and formers seemed to be of interest to everyone. We also had hollow forms and, of course, a burst of colour in the shape of an Orchid. Read on for more:

Burnsy: WoodturningBurnsy related a cautionary tale based on two things. First, that water expands when it freezes and, second, that glass is not flexible. It appears that someone forgot to put anti freeze in the cooling system on the laser, the results can be see on the bench...ouch! A replacement tube has been delivered and is about to be fitted but not before some anti freeze has been added to the cooling system....

Graham Brooks: WoodturningGraham Brooks sent over a couple of photos from his chair build, one shows some components and the other the finished chair - and very nice it is too!!

Mike Wilson: WoodturningMike Wilson sent over a photo of a couple of chairs he had made featuring turned spindles and steam bending, a discussion followed about rounding planes (rounders or rotary planes) which were made by Ashem Crafts - https://www.ashemcrafts.com/ which has now closed. The construction of bending formers also seemed to be of interest to many present.

Patrick Lindsay: WoodturningPatrick Lindsay sent over some photos of hollow forms he had made in the past plus a piece of work in progress on the lathe, however the recent cold snap has called a halt to proceedings until things warm up a little. As usual we got a lovely splash of colour in the shape of an Orchid currently in bloom over in the greenhouse.
