The spring weather is taking many of us back to the workshop and projects both large and small are getting underway. Updates this week include a visit to the show at Newark, breaking concrete, postage from New Zealand and much more, including of course and Orchid from the greenhouse. Read on for more:
Andrew Hall sent in a number of photos from his recent trip to demonstrate at the show in Newark. Andrew demonstrated a number of techniques over the two day event, met up with some old friends and made a few new ones. Seems like everyone had a good time !!
Burnsy completed a number of projects this week including a bit of concrete removal to lay a cable to the new shed, some turning/carving (just for Len) and replacing a low voltage power supply on the laser....with a big thank you to the good folks at OMTech for all their help. A certain Australian turner sent over some publicity photos he'd had done...one of which was modified and sent back - this caused a fair amount of amusement !!
Gary Lowe sent over some photos of a new piece, a lidded box which showcases Gary's use of carving, texture and colouring as well as his turning. Lots of compliments on this piece and justly so - lovely piece !!
John Brown sent in some photos of a parcel that recently arrived from New Zealand, the parcel contained parts from Woodcut for John's hollowing tool. The interesting thing is that getting the part from New Zealand was cheaper than getting it from their dealer in the UK. Proves the old maxim: It pays to shop around!!
Julian Cleak sent in some photos of a trophy he'd won recently at an archery competition and a photo of a trophy he'd made some time ago for his local archery club. The design of the two seemed to show that Julian is not only a better archer but has a much better eye for form and shape...at least that seemed to be the general opinion. Well done on the archery win !!
Kevin Purdy sent in some photos of a very clever egg timer turned on multiple centres. Very good idea and I can see that there are going to be number of these appearing from members workshops over the next little while. Well done as always !!
Patrick Lindsay is back in the workshop and we can see the results! Bowls and candlesticks are in production and Patrick has taken delivery of more raw materials so he can make more things!! We also got a look at the latest bloom from the greenhouse. Where does he get the energy !!!
Phil Irons sent over some photos of an urn completed recently which features a pewter finial made from a billet that he had cast. We also got a look at a "clamshell" box made from Kingwood. Very nice indeed!!
Videos Submitted This Week
As always we had several contributions from others so, if you showed something, then please do send over some photos you can do it from your mobile phone.... it's not that hard, just ask a teenager for help!!
DON'T FORGET: YOU SHOULD SEND OVER YOUR PHOTOS/VIDEOS FOR MONDAY EVENING RIGHT AWAY FOLKS!!
Don't forget you can find the previous Monday Session Reports on the website just click here. You can also look at the images for each week by clicking here and look at the images for each contributor by clicking here.
