A varied mixture of projects are keeping us all busy at the moment, some turning, chainsaw milling, domestic repairs, sign making and the arrival of an air ambulance....Read on for more:
Allan Joicey sent in a number of photos of a piece made as a reminder of the deep rooted links to coal mining that exist in the communities of the North of England and elsewhere. We also got a look at a lidded box with a pewter finial and accents made from Yew. As always fantastic work !!
Arun sent in a number of photos of a bit of chainsaw milling he had been doing recently on a fairly substantial Sequoia, judging from the slabs the tree is certainly living up to it's common name of Redwood !! Arun is still shuttling back and forth to college so he won't be able to join us on Mondays for a little while, but it'll be nice to see some of the pieces that come from the Redwood !!
Burnsy seems to have had another varied week! This time we have had a bit of sign making in some two layered acrylic for the local hotel to cover up an inaccurate sign supplied by a brewery. Things then moved on to some testing in the laser cutter with slate, this seems to work very well but there are some important things to note with the material - very dusty !! The pellet stove igniter finally gave up the ghost and had to be replaced and then an accident in the village resulted in the arrival of the air ambulance...a bit more excitment than was wanted really !!
Gary Lowe has sent in a couple of photos of two recent off centre winged bowls (hope I got that correct!!). The bowls were carved, textured and coloured. The results kind of speak for themselves, fantastic work!!
Phil Irons sent over some photos of an urn completed recently in Maple (I think) which had been coloured to reveal the stunning grain patterns in the timber. Phil also sent in a photo of the pewter finial from the urn shown last week. The finial had become stuck in the wooden threaded insert and then had to be removed by force !! Thankfully the urn and the finial survived without major incident, a new insert has been made with a somewhat looser thread to avoid a re-occurence of the issue!!
