All sorts of stuff going on this week, lost carving burrs rediscovered, timber deliveries, over size nuts, chameleon flakes, laser engraving on hollow forms and some concrete pouring. It's exhausting just reading about it all !! Read on for more:
Andrew Hall sent in a number of photos and some videos of a recent trip to Wooler and the borders plus some photos of Sunny - just for Richard !!
Burnsy has a never ending supply of varied weeks. This week we had the arrival of a quantity of rough sawn Sycamore from a local sawmill, a new carving burr arrived to replace the ones which were lost - the lost ones then turned up. Some spindle turning was also managed in the form of a vase inspired by the work of a ceramics designer called David Yorath - worked for Denby and produced some works called Minaret vases. We also had some more slate engraving and the arrival of a 2" x 4.5 tpi nut...lets see if it fits onto the RU spindle!!
Graham Brooks has sent in sent in some photos of a couple of three pointed boxes, these have had the lids carved and "chameleon flakes" added to create a colour which shifts as your viewing angle moves. We also got a look at a couple of trophy bases which have been modified to all more room for winners names. Very nice !!
Phil Irons sent over some photos of an urn completed recently, this time with a wooden lid and finial. We got a look at an urn in the making, this one is going to require some serious filling to close the voids in it, though once done it should be a nice piece as it has lots of grain/figure visible. We also got to see some experiments with the laser and its rotary axis to engrave on the surface of a hollow form in the round...interesting possibilities.
Richard Dickson is making progress with the new workshop. A base has been excavated and concrete poured, we also have the necessary work to allow for a power supply to be connected to it. All exciting stuff...looking forward to the next installment !!
