A move in start time, some issues with accessing Zoom and a Bank Holiday left us a bit short on numbers last week but this didn't seem to make much difference to the discussion. We covered a whole range of topics including the thorny subject of pricing work....Read on for more:
Burnsy had been working with a multi-tool and noticed an unusually large amount of dust in the air...turned out it wasn't dust but smoke, that became apparent when the tool became too hot to hold!!! The tool was duly despatched out of the workshop (rapidly) and the task completed by hand. However, whilst tackling the shopping the middle aisle of a well known supermarket gave up a new multi-tool, priced at £19.99 it seemed a good deal...it became even better at the checkout when an unexpected discount was applied reducing it to £14.99 !! (More jam than Hartleys!!)
Gary Lowe sent in some photos of very nice lidded box with carving, texture and colour, very nice as always !!
Graham Brooks has been busy out in the workshop and sent in some photos of some really nice pieces, including a "walking' mushroom which caused quite a bit of interest - the legs are turned then cut and rejoined with splines to strengthen the joints...very nice indeed!!
Jim Briggs sent over a photo of a couple of tea light holders and wanted some advice on pricing work...talk about light the touch paper and retire !!! No shortage of views, opinions and ideas on this topic !! One common thread seems to be that woodturning is always under valued by people...we need to do something about that!!
Len Shield sent over some photos of fridge magnets he had made, as always very creative and loads of character - some great work here!!
