We were back to our normal start time this week with a whole load of photos being sent in. We all seem to be busy with lots of turning on display, new tools arriving in workshops and work. being prepared for shows and exhibitions. Several folks attended the WoodWorks show in Daventry and we had two returnees: Patrick came back from his sick leave and Richard returned from a second trip around the North Coast 500 (no recovery vehicle was needed). Read on for more:
Burnsy has been working on items for an upcoming exhibition, creating more textured work and adding in some gold leaf or coloured silver leaf. Christmas also came a good bit early this week with the arrival of a number of new items for the workshop in the shape of a Bandsaw (thank you to the folks at Record), a thickness planer and a bobbin sander ... lots to unbox!!
Graham Brooks has been busy out in the workshop and sent in some photos of a bowl with beads and three carved feet. We also got a look at a winged bowl made from Yew, this one caused a few problems with keeping the bark attached but Graham managed it!!
Jim Briggs went down the WoodWorks show in Daventry and whilst looking around he purchased a new powered respirator from Emma Cook (the tiny turner). Jim's delight in his new purchase was short lived when he returned to the car to find he had a flat which could not be fixed with the kit in the boot...a recovery vehicle was needed to get the tyre sorted...an expensive day out!!
Malcolm Ferguson sent over a couple of photos of a bowl he had made from some Scots Pine. Not the easiest of timbers to work with on the lathe but Malcolm seems to have more than managed it, lovely piece of work !!
Martin Dickinson was also at the WoodWorks show in Daventry (long drive that one Martin!) and sent over some photos of the work on show plus one of Jim Briggs alongside Emma Cook...the Tiny Turner!!
Mike Wilson sent over a some photos of his raised beds showing the growing season getting going. We also got some photos of a variety of blanks which had been selected as wedding cake stands...bark left on where possible.
Patrick Lindsay rejoined us this week after his recent medical treatment he is now looking forwards to getting back out into the workshop. We got a look at some work completed before his treatment and we got a lovely splash of colour from the Orchids currently in bloom. Welcome back Patrick !!
Phil Irons sent over some photos of a fairly gnarly piece of Robinia he has started work on. Lots of voids and splits in this one, grain in all directions - looks like a fair challenge so we are all looking forwards to the next installment of this one !!
Richard Dickson sent over some photos from his recent trip around the North Coast 500...the TR6 did make it without major incident though there was a slight panic prior to leaving with new shock absorbers being hastily fitted. Still not sure you should need to wear waterproof gear when you are inside the car with the roof closed though !!
