Well, it's busy busy for lots of us as things seem to be going on in lots of workshops with stick making, lampshade making, kinetic sculptures and a whole lot more. We had an absolute show stopping piece on display plus a prize winning piece from the Yorkshire Show, vintage cars, gearknobs, vintage workshop machinery and as usual lots of discussion. Read on for more:
Andrew Hall was off on his travels but sent over some photos of some of the walking stick heads with details being aribrushed and then the pieces added to some sticks...very nice indeed!!
Arun is continuing on with natural edge bowl production building up a ready stock for shows and galleries, we also got a look at some Monkey Puzzle which has been standing patiently by for a little while and is now being converted to hollow forms...it was suggested that perhaps a visit to Phil would be in order so he can learn how to bend handles....cruel...but still funny!!!
Burnsy had yet more fun in the workshop this week with lampshades and a prototype of an idea spotted online for a kinetic sculpture..this one powered by a small electric motor but version two is already in the design stages...more next time. The sculptural works now have stands from the local blacksmiths shop with a 3d printed mount being produced to complete them. Some photos were also included from the recent visit to Kirkcudbright of the Alvis owners club. Lastly, a somewhat puzzling screenshot from an online delivery service was also shown...rather oddly the delivery came by van not boat....
Gary Lowe has completed the piece we caught a glimpse of last week and it has to be said it is an absolute show stopper!! The piece was admired by all present, and rightly so...fantastic work!!
Graham Brooks sent over some photos of a couple of pieces, the first was a cake stand featuring some involuted turning. The second was of Graham's entry into the Great Yorkshire Show which earned him a rosette for third prize...well done Graham!!
Malcolm Ferguson sent over some photos recent visit to a museum showing an old lathe, a saw pit and a treadle powered fretsaw which proved to be a major talking point with several folks remembering the ones produced by Hobby's - this one was a vintage model produced in the USA.
Phil Irons sent over an assortment of images this week including some shots of a batch of blue urns being made to replace one which had suffered badly from worm attack (remember to microwave these ones!!) and a gear knob made for a TR6 owner as a wedding gift....apparently there is another one being produced...now I wonder who that could be for??? Which reminds me....Richard....
