Well, this week we had deliveries of materials, completed commissions, mixed media pieces, competition pieces, a new apprentice in one workshop and the contents of another for sale. We also had a bumper harvest of pears and tomatoes. One of our number is also deep in the joys of classic car ownership....also known as the piston broke club membership.... Read on for more:

burnsy: WoodturningBurnsy has been out making a lampshade for an order, this one was a little larger than normal at around 630mm diameter and made in Oak veneer to match the interior of a brand new extension. This turned into another learning experience on a number of fronts....every day's a school day!! A delivery of materials from a local contact now means that there are lots of pieces to experiment on with the new CNC!!

Gary Lowe: WoodturningGary Lowe sent in some photos of a rather lovely mixed media piece along with some three sided boxes. Gary was also joined in the workshop by his young assistant who was seen adding texture to a piece turned by Gary...carrying on the family tradition then !!

Kevin Purdy: WoodturningKevin Purdy sent in some photos of a lidded bowl with a magnet in the base - a very handy pin tray for some lucky person !! Very nice as always.

Len Shield: WoodturningLen Shield sent in some photos of a turned mouse, judging from the reactions there's going to be a few of these little critters appearing from a number of workshop doors in the not too distant future. Lovely piece of work !!

Mike Wilson: WoodturningMike Wilson sent in a some photos from an open competition he attended, the amount of work put into the exhibit of turned and carved fruit impressed many of the folks present along with the paint finish on the Oranges and bananas...apparently the maker is a professional spray painter...it shows !!

Patrick Lindsay: WoodturningPatrick Lindsay is now back in the workshop and we are starting to see more of the natural edge pieces emerging, well done Patrick! We also got a look at a pear tree in the garden which seems to be absolutely loaded with tiny pears...that's a lot of bottling!!

Phil Irons: WoodturningPhil Irons sent over some photos of a few new urns that have been completed recently and a photo of a visitor to the workshop...a young fox... looks like he needs a bit of feeding up...smoked salmon would do the trick nicely!!

Richard Dickson: WoodturningRichard Dickson is deep in the joys of classic car ownership...in other words covered in oil with lumps of metal all over the garage floor. We got a look at the lump in the TR6 with the cylinder head still resolutely in place despite Richards efforts to remove it. One suggestion was to use oil in the bores and turn over the engine to create force to push the head off...very sneaky!! Some also suggested removing the entire engine and stripping it down totally for a full refurbishment...a bit like ripping a plaster off quickly really....getting all the pain over in one go. However Richard was able to show us a very nice gear knob ...made by Phil ...and some footage from an airshow. We also got a look at Richards tomato harvest...that's a lot of tomatoes !!
