Lots of activity this week with wall lights, three legged stools, burr platters, timber collection, a piece of timber which had gone just a little too far and some really creative use of colour...nobody mentioned Christmas though so we're OK... Read on for more:

burnsy: WoodturningBurnsy managed to mix in some lampshade design with the turning, a modern styled wall light and some updates to a modern wheel style lampshade to make sure it remains evenly spaced...it may be plywood but, like all wood, it still moves. A new charger is being fitted and it seems like the feral cat really likes a nice bit of Salmon!!

Gary Lowe: WoodturningGary Lowe sent in some photos of a few pieces completed. One of the Calabash from last time, one of a piece with some panels of woven raffia and a pretty spectacular piece of burr elm made into a natural edged platter....very nice indeed!!

John Brown: WoodturningJohn Brown sent in some photos of a couple of recent pieces and some surprising timber. One of the pieces was a lovely spalted piece but this one didn't quite make it all the way to completion as the timber turned out to be too far gone!! John also did some experimentation with a bright yellow timber...not sure if it will stay that colour !!

Kevin Purdy: WoodturningKevin Purdy sent in some photos of his entry for a club competion - a stool with an upholstered top and some really nice pyrography. We also got photos of some of the other competition entries. We also got a look at a set of Yew goblets currently in production...

Phil Irons: WoodturningPhil Irons sent over some photos of a batch of brown oak keepsake urns which double up as tea light holders, very nice too. We also got a look at some highly figured timber recently collected - Box Elder (which is actually a Maple).

Steve Gordon: WoodturningSteve Gordon sent over some photos of a couple of pieces made on a course he attended with Mick Hanbury. Not being a big user of paint/colour Steve wanted to move out of his comfort zone....and it certainly seems to have paid dividends!! Hopefully we will see some more pieces using colour in future!!
