Yet another busy week, more turning being done and Jim forgot his homework (apparently the dog ate it) we saw more burrs being turned, Masur Birch hollow forms completed along with wonky hollow vessels. A new member showed us his latest creation, a hybrid CNC/Turned bowl....it's catching on this computer stuff then. Read on for more:
Burnsy carried on with more cherry turning though this time the Moon Jar shape managed to retain the neck as it was found to be acceptable on this piece. Whilst things were still warmed up on the lathe a worm eaten piece of Masur Birch which had been thoroughly treated was completed. It shows the battle scars but it remains a lovely piece of wood...if anyone knows of a source of Masur logs just let me know.....
Gary Lowe sent in some photos of a couple of pieces made from some Burr Elm which had been sitting in the "around to it" pile for a little while, very nice indeed. We also got a look at an Ash piece which gives the appearance of being a vessel inside another vessel...Jim was mystified so his homework was set as producing a similar work....we are guessing that homework will be eaten by the dog....
Neil Farnham sent in some photos of his most recent piece combining CNC routing with turning to produce this very nice piece of work. This CNC stuff is catching on....the next thing you know Axminster will start selling computers!!
Phil Irons sent over some photos of his visit to demonstrate at a woodturning club, nice to see all of those younger members in the audience!! We also got a look at some recently completed pieces including the footed vessel shown last week.
