An extremely busy week with the photos and videos flying in from all directions, even Jim finally managed to beat the dog back and send in some homework!! We had repairs to storm damage, spherical lids, colour, texture, animal sculpture, CNC routing and more besides....it's exhausting just thinking about it....Read on for more:
Burnsy had a varied week, including some lantern making, repairs to a dropped lampshade and, following storm Amy a bit of home repair work on a neighbours outhouse when the door ended up laid flat out in the garden....shows what happens when you don't do those little jobs in the summer !!!
Gary Lowe sent in some photos of some recent pieces. The interesting hat shown last week was done again but this time not as headwear, very nice indeed. We also got a look at some boxes with spherical lids, very interesting with the sloped surfaces...some really interesting possibilities with this idea....more to follow we hope!!
Graham Brooks sent over some photos of recent work, in this case a three cornered box with a a textured lid which makes use of the chameleon flakes/colours sold by Emma. We also got some photos from Graham's archive showing Eiko Tanaka - a Japanese turner and Urushi (Japanese lacquer) artist demonstrating at the Escoulen school of woodturning in France.
Jim Briggs managed to fend off the dog this week and send in some homework showing a very nice box he'd made...you can't even see where the dog had started to chew it!! We also got a look at Jim's upmarket photo studio...now that's just showing off!!!
John Brown was inspired by a recent demonstration by Richard Findley who had shown his approach to making boxes. John took a shot at it and produced this box...very well done indeed!!
Kevin Purdy sent in some photos of a couple of footed bowls completed recently. The blanks for both of these pieces came from Patrick Lindsay who seemed very pleased with the use Kevin had made of them.
Len Shield sent in some photos of a very nice bowl made from Cherry, it appears the Christmas production orders have started flowing for Len !!
Martin Stacey as always ready for a challenge, Martin had been asked to do make a sculpture of a dog!! So this week we got a look at the results of Martin's work, as always very innovative, Martin has produced this fantastic piece of work. Just to put us all to shame Martin also sent over some photos of a work done to provide access to a house for someone who was struggling following illness...well done indeed !!
Neil Farnham sent in some photos of two of his most recent pieces. One was a bowl/platter with a carved ropework/celtic motif on it in relief. Neil was looking for some pointers on use of colour to accent the carving...several suggestions were offered. We also got a look at a sign made using the CNC router for Neil's local woodturning club for which more suggestions were made regarding use of colour to enhance the carving....more to follow!!
Patrick Lindsay sent over some photos of some recent pieces and work in progress including some work which had to be refinished following a leak in his storage cupboard which resulted in water damage to a few completed pieces. Some really nice pieces on show including a pretty decent sized bowl !!
