Really busy week this week with birthday celebrations, clockwork lenses, multi-centre turning, off-centre turning, an award for one of the group (well deserved), natural edge bowls, hollow forms, fitted furniture, platters with attitude, tools to restore and a whole lot more....exhausting just hearing about it all.....Read on for more:
Andrew Hall sent over some photos from Ash Howard who had been using the WivaMac lathe (purchased from Andrew) to turn some table tops and very nice they are! We also got a look at some of the celebrations for Roman's first birthday...hope that cake is sugar free!!
Burnsy has been playing with not only cyanotype solution but this week added in soap bubbles to produce some rather interesting results. We also got some photos from inside the church showing the pews and a look at (and listen to) the clockwork lens used in the Intrepid 4x5 camera...yes it is clockwork....totally analogue!!
Gary Lowe continued with the multi centre theme from last week and this time we got a look at a three centre piece with texture, colour and metal leaf. Really lovely piece and an intriguing series of work!!
Graham Brooks sent over a selection from the archives including some bowls with inserts, an off-centre turned piece and some bowls within bowls...lovely work as always.
Kevin Purdy sent over some photos of a recent piece of work, a spinning top and bowl. Kevin made the pieces as part of his assessment of his AWGB approved tutors badge. Kevin passed his assessment with flying colours (of course) and is now an approved tutor...Very Well Done!!
Len Shield sent in some photos of a novely box/salt in the shape of a camel...very innovative as always and something that will (no doubt) appear from several workshops in the near future!!
Martin Stacey sent a set of photos showing us what has been keeping him busy in the past little while. A renovation of his daughters room has been completed with custom made cupboards with internal storage spaces, a desk and shelves. Very nice as always!!
Patrick Lindsay is responding to the improved weather by stepping up production of more natural edge bowls and other things!! Patrick continues to put us all to shame with his non-stop output...well done!!
Phil Irons sent over a set of photographs showing progress on a hollow form with some rather lovely figure. We also got a look at a trip to his local timber supplier which resulted in a van load of raw materials...
Richard Dickson sent over some photos of a rather lovely Ash platter he had made. The platter has come back to haunt him as it has moved and now needs to be altered to ensure it sits flat...a range of solutions were proposed including "don't bother"...lets see which way he chooses to go with the piece....
Steve Gordon sent in a photo of some old tools he had purchased from a local club. They seem to be either Ivory turning or Ornamental turning tools. Steve is planning to restore the set to something approaching their former glory....looking forward to seeing the results!!
