Another busy week with the improving weather and lengthening days allowing many of us to get back out to working on a wide variety of projects. We had demonstration preparations, standing around in the dark under cloths, archive turnings, lovely hollow forms, oval hollow forms, welcoming back an old friend from over the water and a whole lot more ..... Read on for more:

Andrew Hall: WoodturningAndrew Hall sent over some photos of his conversion of an old timber storage/work area in the garden into a training facility for Roman and his pal Sunny. We also got a look at the preparations in hand for the last two demonstrations Andrew will be doing at local clubs. Andrew is planning to demonstrate some platters based on blanks prepared using paints and the potters wheel...wish we were all there and hope things go well.

Burnsy: WoodturningBurnsy sent over some updates on the camera with things arriving to help get a little closer to some nice big negatives. A darkcloth and a loupe have arrived meaning that a formless lump is now appearing behind the camera and things are coming into focus much better...having only one working eye which is now not working quite as well as it used to isn't helpful. Things are also upside down .... a bit of head scratching required!!

Graham Brooks: WoodturningGraham Brooks  gave us another look into his archives with some shots of previous work, very nice indeed. The knee is recovering but not as fast as Graham would like....takes a bit more time when you're over 25 though!!

Julian Cleak: WoodturningJulian Cleak  sent over some photos of a camera he used at work, a rather lovely Crown Graphic Special. It's a 4x5 rangefinder camera with sheet film and polaroid backs...lovely bit of kit...self focus rather than autofocus on this one!!

Kevin Purdy: WoodturningKevin Purdy  sent over some photos of more spinning tops with bowls...they are addictive...once you start making them you just can't stop !!

Malcolm Ferguson: WoodturningMalcolm Ferguson  sent in a photo of a really lovely Oak bowl...well done !!

Martin Stacey: WoodturningMartin Stacey  sent over some photos of his completed hollow form now with a lid and legs attached. The finish on the body of the form is multiple layers of spray lacquer which were wet sanded to give a highly polished look. Really lovely project, well done !!

Phil Irons: WoodturningPhil Irons  sent over an update on the Mulberry hollow form which is now drying out. It appears that the form has moved ever so slightly during drying and now resembles a rugby ball in cross section, of course this just makes it even more beautiful. Check out the video to see the now wobbly hollow form !!

Philip Bull: WoodturningPhilip Bull  sent in some photos of pages from the Holtzapffel book on simple turning to help Steve Gordon with his restoration of the set of turning tools he showed us last week. Several people commented on the cover image of the book pointing out that the turned item on the cover was not perhaps something that most of us would consider to be simple turning !!
