A varied week with some cracking work (the egg jokes started early), we had woodturning of all types, digital image processing and antique silver restoration, knee op recovery plus a whole lot more. What a busy lot !! .... Read on for more:
Burnsy took a run at creating digital negatives to print from in Cyanotype and Salt Prints. The idea is to print out a negative (from a digital image) onto a sheet of transparency or film then use it to create a hand printed image...easy right?? So the obvious route is to greyscale the image reverse it and then invert it, easy enough right? Well several things were learned, amongst them were: Don't use the wrong transparency film in a laser printer, don't use the wrong transparency film in an inkjet printer and doing this directly ends up with loss of detail and generally an overexposed image...more homework required on this one!!
Dave Blanden sent over some photos of Easter Egg production at his local club, looks like everyone got a little "eggcited" over this one...see what I did there. Cracking job, well done to all!!
Gary Lowe sent over sent over some photos of a piece made on the lathe with multiple apertures, the piece was turned, carved, coloured and textured and kind of resembles a sea urchin. Whatever it resembles the general opinion was that it was a very nice piece of work!!
Graham Brooks has managed to venture out into the workshop now the new knee is working. Graham sent over a set of photos a couple of pieces of work he had completed. Looks like Graham will soon be back to full throttle then, well done!!!
John Brown sent over some photos of a couple of pieces inspired by Phil Iron's pieces last week. The pieces are based on Phil's keepsake urns with a threaded foot and a top recess for a candle or tealight. Lovely idea and well executed...I think we will be seeing a lot more of these!!
Kevin Purdy sent over a series of photographs showing the steps to make his entry for a recent club competition with an easter egg theme. The piece turned out very well indeed but sadly didn't take a first prize...must have been a pretty tough competition. Everyone this evening definitely gave it a first prize, well done Kevin!!
Len Shield sent in some photos of bit of woodcarving this week. A spoon and a spoon rest carved in the shape of a bird. The wood in question was rescued from the scrap/firewood pile and the results are really great, well done as always.
Patrick Lindsay has been braving the cold in the workshop and battling against a back injury but he has still been producing more natural edge pieces. We got a look at a few of the pieces he has been working on .... still putting most of us to shame with the work rate!! Well done Patrick!
Paul Howard sent in a photo of a piece he had been asked to make. The piece is based on a late Victorian/Edwardian piece of silver work in the shape of a match holder. Paul turned a base for it following the shape of the silver work. Very nice indeed and does justice to the original silver work. Well done.
