Well, this week we had a whole range of stuff going on, digital negatives, CNC enclosures, retirement demonstrations, box making, vase making, workshop renovations, smock confusions and a little visit to Australia!! .... Read on for more:
Andrew Hall sent over some photos from his last scheduled professional demonstration which took place at Lincolnshire Wolds Woodturning club. The club put on a buffet and gave Andrew a splendid send off. Andrew is headed off to enjoy his retirement!!
Burnsy had yet another varied week. The exploration of creating digital negatives moved ahead with a more detailed look at the conversion process which turns out to be a little more complex with the issue being mainly down to differences between analog and digital image handling. Progress was made on the CNC enclosure and some childhood memories are being revived with the recreation of some Fratelli Manelli sculptural pieces in wood...more to follow.
Gary Lowe sent over sent over some photos of a few of boxes he'd made over the week, one as practice for an upcoming demonstration. The spherical lids seemed very popular with everyone and we are likely to see a lot more of those in future!!
Len Shield sent in some photos of some vases made recently with one made from a ring of timber provided by Andrew Hall. The ring had been saved from the process of making a wooden hat, dried then trued up with a glass tube inserted to hold the blossom...a great idea which I think we will likely see appearing in several workshops soon!!
Malcolm Ferguson sent over some photos of one of those "around to it" jobs that he has completed. The workshop in his garden had seen better days with the cladding on the front wall badly needing replacement. So Malcolm obtained the necessary timber from a local sawmill and set to work...big improvement, splendid job. One ticked off the list then!!!
Patrick Lindsay despite a back injury has carried on with the work and is producing more work including the natural edge pieces seen in the photographs which include a couple of "artistic" pieces with cracks and bark inclusions. Splendid work as always!!
Phil Irons returned from his trip to TurnFest in Australia and sent over a batch of photos from his trip, including one of him with Emma Cook - the smocks seem to have gotten mixed up somehow!! Phil commented on the very high standard of turning on display and in particular the work of an unnamed pyrography artist which can be seen in the photos...stunning work, well done to all concerned!!
