Lots going on this week, a return to the workshop for one person, 3d printing, boat repairs, natural edge pieces, hollow forms and a new lathe for one lucky person!! Read on for more:
Andrew Hall has made a return to woodturning to make a few bowls/platters after rescuing a few "too nice to burn" pieces from the firewood pile. Of course now he's retired the workshop clean up can wait....see those students did come in handy at times!! Much to Jim's delight we also got a Pupdate.
Burnsy continued with the woodturning but also managed to get some more time on Phil's 3d printer. This time the prints were of trolley token dodgers and a rather nifty little idea to tidy up the cables on the CNC router. Jim was shown some more puzzles but expressed a definite preference for pupdates....
Davey Irons sent over some photos of a recent job he had done - replacing some planks on a leaking trawler hull. Apparently fibreglass bandage and car body filler won't do the job....who knew!!
Gary Lowe sent over some photos of a recently completed piece. However, more important were the photos of the new lathe which has arrived in the workshop - a Vicmarc VL 240...a very nice machine indeed and purchased from Simon Hope. The new piece was the first of many that will come of the new lathe...well done...like the Vicmarc baseball cap too!!!
Graham Brooks sent over some photos of a couple of recently completed pieces. A natural edge bowl in Laburnum with some really interesting grain pattern and a candlestick in a square cross section. Both very nice indeed...as always!!
Kevin Purdy sent over some photos of a winged bowl he had made from a piece of Laburnum. The piece was a branch node and has a small inclusion - all of which gives the timber quite a lot of interest. Well done as always.
Len Shield sent over some photos of a couple of completed pieces. The first a bowl and second a duck to stand out in the garden near the bird bath...as always very imaginative and different...but I'm sure a few more of these will appear from workshops in the near future.
Patrick Lindsay is continuing with the production of natural edge pieces including a candle sticks (in fact a pair of them). It seems to be keeping Patrick busy and everyone else seems to be quite slow compared to Patrick!!
Phil Irons has been out in the workshop finishing off a few pieces and we got a look at two of them. A rather lovely Olive Ash hollow form and another hollow form which has been coloured and carved...both really lovely pieces. Well done.
