We had a rather full evening this time with some returning from holidays and we suspect others still on a break. We had laser modules, a narrow escape from RU ownership, converted fishing boats, confused bulls, confused Jim's, classic cars, invasive species ...... heck some of us even managed to squeeze in some woodturning....whatever next !! Read on for more:
Burnsy was back from a short break away to the Cowal peninsula. The fun started immediately with the arrival of a new laser module for the CNC router, now to figure out how to actually fit it and use it...fire extinguishers at the ready!! An ultrasonic cleaner was also purchased from the middle aisle of a well known supermarket chain....ideal for cleaning router bits!!
Dave Wilcocks sent in an email to point out that he hasn't yet purchased the RU shown in the photograph....there's still hope then !! I'm sure Dave will keep us up to date with progress.
Davey Irons upon hearing Burnsy talking about a visit to Glen Massan sent over a photo of a boat bearing the same name...apparently it's an old fishing boat converted for use a cruise ship round the inner hebrides.
Gary Lowe sent over some photos of a group of amphorae completed recently. The pieces are in Burr Elm and Sycamore, they feature some texture and a bit of colour. The stands are one piece of timber turned as a beaker then carved away. Lovely work as always!!
Jim Briggs sent over some light relief in a photo showing a more literal interpretation of the phrase "hosepipe ban".... moving swiftly on then.
John Brown sent over some photos of a book on woodturning he had recently acquired...by some Australian bloke. Sadly it was a signed copy so not worth too much. Julian produced his copy which was unsigned and apprently far more rare....
Kevin Purdy sent over some photos of a couple of carving mallets made from Beech and Ash. The photos made several people think of Maracas and at least one person was thinking Morecambe and Wise, Sombrero's the whole lot....that person shall remain nameless of course. Very nice work as always!!

sent over some photos including one of his now completed oriental/pagoda style box complete with finial. Very nice work as always from Martin !!
Mike Wilson sent over a photo he had managed to snap of the new bull that his neighbour had purchased....it seems that the bull is still getting the hang of things.....
Paul Howard sent over some photos of some work he has been doing in the style of Hans Weissflog. I guess the term would be filigree turning ?? The idea is that a design is turned part way through the piece which is then repositioned and has a design cut on a different axis on the other side giving a "see through" effect. Paul constructed a jig to help achieve this and ground down a parting tool to make the cuts. Very nice indeed...a new Simon Hope jig soon then ???
Phil Irons sent over a few photos showing a recent student at work producing hollow forms, a muntjac deer which paid him a visit and one of his fountain pens ..... he has recently had an order for these....just has to remember how he made them now!!
