Well it seems that we are all busy with a whole range of projects, garden make overs are continuing and we had a detailed look at the restoration work inside a historic house which included some replacement carvings. We continued with another clock, some CNC carving, a whole load of turned work and a really interesting piece of work created by a P.o.W during WW2. Read on for more:
Burnsy got back into the workshop and went to work on another clock design with compass points this time. A house sign is required so the flat bed CNC was given an outing to test out a few font styles with a set of v-bits to allow the customer to make a choice.
Gary Lowe sent over some photos of a few recently completed pieces including a box, a natural edge hollow form and a hollw form which had been carved, textured and coloured. As always, very nice indeed!!
Jim Briggs sent over some photos of a mystery piece of timber which was destined to become a bird of some sort...be interesting to see the finished piece...hint hint!! We also got a look at Jim's outing with a local shooting club to a range where they let Jim loose with some big toys....
John Brown sent over some photos of a couple of items. The first was a lidded box that John had made, it has a threaded lid using the method he picked up from Phil (and others), the threads are on an inserted piece of timber which means the softer spalted timber of the box isn't used to form threads. We also got a look at a cigarette case hand made for Johns father by a German PoW .....a well designed and made item!!
Kevin Purdy sent over a batch of photos showing the restoration work he had been doing on Eshott Hall on wood panelling and a whole load of other things. Many of the sections were heavily damaged by worm infestation and had to be replaced which involved some hand carving of replacements for original carvings...very nice work and a really great result.
Margaret Garrard sent over some photos of a piece of work she had completed which featured in a book. The piece was an unfinished one from the estate of the late Pablo Nemzoff which Margaret was asked to complete in her own style. The result was this spectacular piece of work from a part turned work which had almost no material left in places....lovely piece of work!!
Martin Stacey sent over some photos of the projects he had been working on recently which involved some garden make over work, replacement of a porch roof damaged in a storm and a hollow form which had been reworked from an earlier piece which Martin wasn't happy with. Lots going on then !!
Paul Howard sent over some photos of a recent commission he had completed for some belay pins which are to be used on a restored sailing vessel. Paul had managed to use up some old handrail from the "that'll come in handy one day" pile. Well done !!
Phil Irons sent over a few photos of his recent visit to a classic car event, lots of collectible vehicles on display .... some of them even work!! Apparently the sausage sandwiches were very good......
