A fairly brisk evening, we had a prize winner at a local orchid show...no prizes for guessing who that was!! We had turning, puzzle making, garden repairs, fluting jigs, hollow forms and some time spent watching paint dry..... Read on for more:
Burnsy provided some photos to show how ready cut items can be switched between machines using fairly basic jigs/templates. This means each machine can then be used where it is best suited to the task at hand, in this case the CO2 laser for cutting and the diode for engraving. On display were some of the latest puzzles ...causing brain melt downs in the local pub!!
Gary Lowe sent over some a couple of photos of a recently completed piece. A bowl with a wide rim, the rim has been fluted/carved and has an undercut. The back was also fluted/carved. The piece was coloured and textured, the bowl interior was done with variegated metal leaf. Lovely work as always.
Graham Brooks sent over some photos of both new and older work. We got a look at a natural edge bowl and some older photos of work using the Fluting jig designed by Paul Howard (Sold by Simon Hope). The fluting jig photos were in answer to John Browns questions about using a router on the lathe...lots to experiment with then!!
Kevin Purdy sent over some photos of a pot pourri holder he had made with a pierced and pyrographed lid. Lovel work as always!!
Malcolm Ferguson sent over some photos of some spalted timber he had used to make some tea light holders. Malcolm suggested that with all of this laser stuff etc going on we might like to take a few minutes to watch paint dry...a brief silence was held to allow people to stare at the photo of paint drying on the shed. Not sure that's going to catch on really...
Martin Stacey sent over some photos of some of the latest projects going on. Some garden renovations have been undertaken to allow safe use of some garden steps and Martin has been renovating an earlier piece of his work by giving it a lick of paint. We also got a look at a childs pull along toy made at a local club....that's going to be appearing in a few workshops shortly. Very busy as always...
Patrick Lindsay sent over some photos of some previously completed hollow forms. We also got a look at some orchids from a show in Darlington where Patrick took away one of the main prizes...winner winner!! Well done Patrick!!
Steve Gordon managed to rescue his homework from the dog this week and we got some photos to show the progress of the new workshop space being built...the roof is currently supported in a bit of a Heath Robinson fashion but the remedy is at hand. All looking very good....looking forward to seeing it all completed....see what I did there Steve???
