Yet another busy week, with the return of an old friend, some peace and quiet, the gavel odyssey continued with part two from Jim, Patrick (as always) put us all to shame with the work rate and we saw how one turner makes rusty tin cans!! Read on for more:
Burnsy sent over some photos celebrating the return of his cap which was left behind in Gary Lowe's car on the way back from the Festival in Stratford. The beach and SSSI in the dunes have returned to normal after the departure of the last of the tourists and, judging from the little head popping up over the long grass...the other locals have moved back in!!
Jim Briggs send over some more photos from his ongoing gavel building odyssey, including the obligatory shot of the gavels on the cooker top (The cooker top trend is catching on Phil!!!). The gavel's were completed by adding some engraved elements courtesy of Phil Irons and his laser engraver - see below for photo.
Patrick Lindsay continues to put all us youngsters to shame with the work rate he is achieving !! We got a selection of photos showing the natural edge pieces he has been making from the delivery of logs originally intended for use as firewood...some lovely timber and a great spot by Patrick.
Phil Irons sent over a couple of photos and a video from his trip out to Wembley to watch an American football game, apparently is some sort of thing like rugby but they wear padding for some reason....odd. We also got a look at the engraving work he had done for Jim to help complete the gavel makng odyssey, handy things those lasers!!
Steve Gordon sent over some photos from his trip to the IWG seminar. The photos show a demonstrator (sorry, didn't catch the turners name) who turned and decorated a rusty tin can from a piece of fig. It appears that fig has a very high shrinkage differential and moves quite dramatically, very clever bit of turning and makes use of the natural features of the timber.
